Solo Questions and Answers

Learning Intention:
Demonstrate our deeper understanding of the text.
Success Criteria:
  • Questions begin with the higher order SOLO verbs.
  • Answers are detailed and include personal voice and evidence from the text.
Questions:

1. Why do you think at the start of the story Raphael doesn't tell his Aunt the truth when it comes to what he found in the trash?
2. List five characters from the book and what part they play.
3. Compare/Contrast their homes to ours.
4. Create a word puzzle about the book.

Answers:

1. I think that he didn't tell her the truth because he thought that she would tell the police. I think she would do this if he told her because she doesn't want to hide things from the police because she is scared of them. If she found out and told the police, then Raphael wouldn't of got to go on the huge adventure with Rat and Gardo that he did.

2.
- Raphael
He is a trash boy and is the one who found the handbag at the start of the story. He is always with Gardo.
- Gardo
He is a trash boy who is good friends with Raphael and acts as his big brother even though he isn't.
- Rat
he is also considered a trash boy even though he didn't always live in that area.  He lives alone with sadly no family to be with.
- Olivia
She is a volunteer and is Father Juilliard's assistant. She is good friends with Rat.
- Father Juilliard
He runs the mission school in Behala that helps all of the children in the area.

3. We all live in our house with our family (at least when we are young). There are rooms for sleeping in as well as some doors and windows separating rooms. There are some large differences though. They are mainly caused by money. They live in crates and boxes using whatever they can get to survive and stay cool in the heat. On the other hand we live in waterproof houses with heaters and air conditioning. We also don't have to use boxes or crates as we can afford to build a house out of wood, bricks, concrete and other materials.

4.
