Success Criteria:
  • Detailed connections made, in your own words, with self, other text and the world

Raphael Fernandez is a dumpsite boy, along with his best friend Gardo. He lives with his aunty, two cousins and his half sister, in a house made of trash found from the dumpsite, they are quite lucky compared to the others living in Behala.
Families living in Behala is not in a very
secure and rich condition, many suffer
from hunger. They count on the trash they
find, and the little money they have, to
Survive,  And to live under
a shelter. Many people living in Behala,
lives with either a parent or family
members, but a boy named Rat lives
alone, he is also one of the characters in the book.  But luckily he was found by the mission school, other wise he wouldn’t have survived. He lives down in the ground with Rats squeaking and crawling around.  Behala’s condition is the same as many of us in real life, suffering from hunger, living in anything they can find, and without the help
they need.  There’s an estimate of 100 million people living homeless, globally. Imagine how they feel, how tough it is without the everyday needs, and no wifi, I can imagine many of us suffering from that. To survive they will find food we threw away, from the bins, and to have a place to live they will sleep anywhere including on the floor.  Many don’t have what we have, many can’t afford things they want, many don’t have a home, and many receive the  careless looks from us walking past. The misery they go through, the criticism they hear and what they have to go through. But there are many groups out there, there to help and to make a difference, and we can make a difference too!

  1. This was a wonderful and insightful piece of writing. You really understood what the characters were going through and how we can help real life people in that situation.
